INEZ KIRK

Oils and Watercolors

A stroke of her brush brings the foreground to life, moves the mountains and trees into the distance and causes the clouds to form over the hills and landscape.

Her bold use of the palette knife creates the union of color and form that literally jumps out at you – her use of misty colors draws you down a country lane or by a valley stream.

Inez always wanted to paint but family obligations demanded too much of her time. After her twin sons were married, her husband gave her a set of brushes and oils and apprenticed her to Joyce Arps, one of the San Fernando Valley’s most talented art instructors. She saw the box! Dinner could wait! Was today Monday, Wednesday or ??? It didn’t matter. She was in a new world.

After Joyce retired because of health problems, Inez studied under Nancy Templeton, a student of the famous Frederic Taubes. Inez also studied under other well-known artists, such as Monte Bell and Lee Belcher.

In 1970 she and her husband retired to Arkansas, their home state. Her oils and watercolors hang from Maryland westward to Hawaii.

Inez has taught art in her studio on the Proving Ground Road, in community education classes and at art supply centers.
